Introduction

Hey everyone, not sure what to start out with, so here goes nothing. My name is Kelsey; I am married to the military. Although not literally, it feels like it sometimes. My husband, Matt, has been in The North Dakota Army National Guard since he was 17 years old. We were both 20 years old when we were married and he was 3 months shy of leaving for his first year long mission. Now, a year after he returned home, he has signed up for The United States Army. When we first met, he told me that was his plan, which scared the bejesus out of me- thinking I don't want to leave my family, my town, my life!!! After he explained to me why this was important to him and of course after falling in love with him and realizing I couldn't live the rest of my life without him, I started to do the research to see just what it would be like to be an "Army wife". After hours of struggling to find information about military life, I found myself more confused than when I had started. Problem was, there wasn't a specific place where I could go to talk to other wives or soldiers to get those answers. There was either conflicting information on one topic or there wasn't any information at all on another. Now, I would like to share the information I have learned along the way and I hope that you will share your experiences and knowledge with me!

Amazon Ships to APO, FPO and DPO Addresses!

I found this information directly on the Amazon Help Pages.

Helpful Hints for ordering from Amazon and shipping to APO, FPO, or DPO Addresses:

Most items can be shipped to APO, FPO, and DPO addresses, except:
  • cell phones and service
  • computers
  • furniture
  • outdoor living items
  • Target@Amazon.com items
Additionally, some apparel, baby, camera and photo, electronics, health and personal care, housewares, jewelry, software, sports, and tools and hardware items cannot be shipped to APO, FPO, or DPO addresses. An error message will appear at checkout if you enter an APO, FPO, or DPO address and the item isn't eligible to be shipped to that address. Check the item's product detail page for eligibility.

Need help entering the shipping address?
  • City field: Enter "APO,"FPO," or "DPO."
  • State/Province/Region field: Enter the two-letter code for the region where the recipient is stationed. Typically, but not always, the code is "AE" for recipients stationed in Europe, Canada, Africa, or the Middle East; "AA" for recipients stationed in the Americas; and "AP" for recipients stationed in Asia or the Pacific.
  • Country field: Always select "United States" from the drop-down menu regardless of where the recipient is stationed.

Following these steps will ensure that you're charged the correct shipping amount and that your order will be delivered in a timely fashion. All shipments to APO, FPO, DPO addresses are sent via U.S. Priority or First Class Mail. We estimate 5 to 7 business days for delivery once the order has been shipped; however, some destinations may take up to 21 days.

  1. stumbled upon this while searching to see if Amazon ships to Afghanistan (APO) addresses...read your blog, from a few years ago..reminded me of me, many years ago...after being the wife of a career Longbow Apache wife for 23 years...I bawled my eyeballs out in the parking log of the PX after his retirement ceremony. The military is a very special group, a wonderful family to be a part of. I didn't know "how not to be" a military wife and be "just civilians"...it was a hard transition...i was depressed. Luckily, my husband is still a pilot in the civilian/contract world and continues to do the same exact job so at least i see him daily in his flight suit or i would have really freaked out because it's all i knew for 23 plus years.. I hope your journey has been a good one thus far. A few years has passed and you've not posted anything else. Thanks for your helpful info here! Wishing you and your husband blessings. God bless our military and their families. April :)

  3. Thank you, I have had this problem with shipping as well and it seems as though anything I pick out to send, Amazon errors. I think I will have to find a new shopping site as I have not noticed this to be a problem when I have ordered else where.

    1. Amazon says most items will ship. They say that there was a glitch in their system that they fixed. We'll, still NOTHING will let you order it with an APO. The same APO that used to work a year ago.

    1. Me too! The customer service reps think I'm trying to send ineligible items. I'm trying to send a book!
They are missing out on a lot of business right now.
